Concerned about the state of our country, but uncertain what to do?

Romans chapter thirteen teaches that God instituted government, as He did the home and the church. God refers to the government’s authority as “the sword.”

Our country is different from all others. Our forefathers gave “the sword” to the people in cases of tyranny. The Declaration of Independence makes it clear that action is not only our right, but our duty.

Jesus commanded us to be salt and light. Instead of being “good for nothing,” we are to be lights that “cannot be hid.”

MAP of the ACTION PLAN

How do you let your light shine? How do we address the wicked things facing us and yet remain balanced in ministry? A map directs us to a destination-- this MAP acronym shows our action plan.

  1. Maintain Focus (Hebrews 12:1-3)
    1. Allegiance to God (Exodus 20:3)
      1. “We ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)
      2. Jesus is the Messiah. We worship and serve the Creator, not the creature. (Romans 1:25)
      3. Because the Lord is our God, we fear not what man can do to us. (Matthew 10:28; Psalm 46:1-2)
    2. Balance (Hebrews 13:9)
      1. Our purpose is to glorify God. (1 Corinthians 10:31-33)
      2. Strive to keep anything from carrying us away from that purpose. (Sometimes current events will require greater attention, but it must not define us…We are not about politics, but about Biblical principles. (Hebrews 12:1-3))
    3. Commission oriented (Matthew 28:18-20)
  2. Apply the Word (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
    1. Pray (1 Timothy 2:1-5; 2 Chronicles 7:14; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
      1. We must pray for our leaders every day. (1 Timothy 2:1-5)
      2. We need to pour out our heart to God (Psalms 62 and many others)
        1. Pray to God about the wicked.
        2. Acknowledge to the Lord our enemies and their intentions. (This is sadly missing from the prayer life of most).
        3. Ask Him to grant victory.
    2. Apply (Acts 19:18-20)
      1. Study (2 Timothy 2:15)
        1. Satan’s attacks are not new. “…we are not ignorant of his devices." (2 Corinthians 2:11)
        2. That means there is a verse that applies to each threat.
      2. Stay informed.
        1. Monitor a couple of good websites like: www.wnd.com and www.swrc.com
        2. Verify from the original source (government website, video, book)
        3. A good shepherd does not protect his sheep by pretending there are no wolves. (John 10:11-13)
      3. Connect the dots. Help people see what God says about the real world issues that they face.
  3. Participate (Acts 19:8-10)
    1. Communicate (Hebrews 13:16)
      1. We often complain-- but to the wrong people. This is not a Biblical response.
      2. Keep our representatives’ contact information handy.
        1. Specify what you want them to do regarding specific legislation.
        2. Thank them when they vote correctly.
      3. Come out & shine (Matthew 5:13-16)
        1. In urgent times, support and attend a national rally.
        2. Determine to show up for local events.
        3. “A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

We participate with Every Day Patriots in the greater Chattanooga area. Our first meeting will be at Ryan's located at 6734 Lee Hwy, Chattanooga, TN 37421 at 6:00PM, Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Principles for Action

These nine principles were laid out by the “9-12 Project”.

1. America Is Good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson
